Review of Slacker (1990) by Jose P — 21 Aug 2008
It vaguely works as a sort of thought-project that would probably work a lot better as a short film than a full hour and forty minute production. The basic premise is the camera is set loose in Austin and over the course of a day, it follows random people around.
The problem being there's no over-arching plot (and barely any sort of ideas that tie it all together), so there's no conflict or resolution, and hardly anything actually interest the viewer past the first fifteen minutes.
Couple in characters that range from uninteresting to appallingly annoying and an embarrassingly amateurish production, and you've got a huge bore-fest that can only stand on its claim to creativity, regardless of whether it's there or not.
