Itâ??s not too surprising that Kevin Smith was inspired to make his own film after seeing SLACKER. He probably thought that if this was considered an indie â??hit,â?? then could certainly make something better; which he did with CLERKS.

SLACKER features winding and twisting conversations from character to character which can be interesting if there is a purpose and eventually leads somewhere. However, it does not. Linklater put this technique to much better use in his later film, WAKING LIFE.
