Review of Slacker (1990) by Aaron K — 19 Jan 2009
Great ending! I love the ending so much. I think this movie is most interesting when viewed from an anthropological perspective: Civilization has had its starts and stops and one of the early major advantages of the newly formed agrarian society was that it produced enough food for labor specialization.
Society could now support a group of people thinking up answers to all kinds of problems. I'm not saying the slacker class portrayed in the film has all (or any) of the answers to society's endless questions but the film seems to say that no matter what you think of think of slackers, the inherent freedom in society that allows these people to live the way they do is essential to everyone.
Its actually a very patriotic film.
