Review of Slacker (1990) by Caleb A — 15 Jun 2009
Dear lord. Pretentiousness on film. I understand the idea, and its the kind of idea that works well if they make it come full circle in some sort of clever way in the end or if it atleast GOES somewhere.
But they don't, and it never does. On top of that, nearly all of the characters whine about life and conspiracy theories and being held down by the system, but not one of them DOES anything. They just complain.
The conversations are full of that bohemian faux-intelligence-riddled 'look-how-outside-the-box-I-am' garbage like 'every single commodity you produce if a piece of your own death' and 'time doesn't exist.
' I know the idea may have been to mock these people, but it was just too annoying to deal with. The one good thing that came from it? It inspired Kevin Smith to make Clerks.
