Review of Slacker (1990) by Jeremy F — 22 Aug 2009
A Richard Linklater original. I'd never seen this before and it was a real treat. Let me start by saying - THIS MOVIE IS NOT FOR EVERYONE - Even back then, Linklater's talent for capturing people just BEING people is fantastic.
This pseudo-documentary film about PEOPLE in Austin, feels like a perfect reflection of the lost child/adult/person. We've all been these people before, lived like them, had or have friends who still are like them - this exploration into the eccentric minds of the slacker, or the wanderer is just spot on.
For one who adores the meandering conversation that are most Linklater films, this original entry is quite a treat. Don't go here looking for story, plot or drive - as the name implies, you wont find them here.
