Review of Slacker (1990) by Train M — 10 Apr 2010
This film is competently shot, and Linklater has proven himself a major talent over the years, but ultimately this film doesn't go anywhere and doesn't really say anything that hasn't been said countless times before.
It just spends too much time spinning its wheels, and focuses on people with whom no one in their right mind would ever want to spend any significant amount of time. As an announcement of a talented director, Slackers works like gangbusters, but as a film it's inert, dull, and ultimately off-putting.
