Review of Slacker (1990) by Røgers C — 12 Sep 2011
More of a Generation X movie then Clerks and more of a coming of age film them Dazed and Confused or Kids.
The thing I love about Slackers is it doesn't throw anything in your face. No loud then hip bands blaring music during transitions to show how "cool" the kids are, no long pans to show off posters, vintage stuff and photos in someones room to show how hip and down to earth they are and no overused jock and nerd stereotypes to portray young adult life. Everyone in this film has his or her own, unique personality. Small things like quirks and flaws help bring out each individual character without being obnoxious and in your face about it like a lot of indie films tend to do. Normal people come to life when they start to talk rather then being visually portrayed as the person they are supposed to be.
