Review of Slacker (1990) by Private U — 10 Jun 2007
Watching this film is a unique experience. The atypical structure creates this sprawling portrait of a generation with no apparent drive or direction. I would hesitate to say that this film is entertaining--there are not a lot of laugh-out-loud jokes like Linklater's next film, Dazed and Confused, but this film works because it enlightens.
Viewing it transforms you into an invisible traveller that peeks in on the ordinary moments of a "slacker" community. Definitely a movie to watch by yourself with a cup of coffee in hand.
