The Rock is a security expert brought to Hong Kong to assess the safety of the world's new tallest building. Gangster's exploit his credentials to set the building on fire in an attempt to get something from the billionaire who owns the building.
The Rock's family is trapped in the building, so he goes into the burning building to save them. This film is ludicrous. Not just kind of ludicrous like your average "Die Hard" rip-off, but batshit incredibly stupid you-have-to-be-a-moron-to-buy-a-minute-of-this ludicrous.
I can accept this in proportion to the success of the movie's action and suspense sequences. The issue is this movie starts with The Rock jumping hundreds of feet into the burning building from a construction crane hundreds of stories in the air.
Essentially, it starts at full throttle and really has nowhere to go from there. There's no suspense in a film where you never accept that the hero is in any danger.
