Review of Skyline (2010) by Simon C — 26 Sep 2011
I think most people missed the point of this movie. I was not expecting much from it after 20 minutes. The fact that it restarted after doing a days backstory, did not help its case. The special effects are just what people expect these days, and the dialogue was some of the worst I have heard in a long time.
However... It is the differences that elevate this film. In real life there are few heroes. There are no last minute rescues, there is no reprieve from the nasty monster. I can hear all those people saying 'We watch to escape from reality!' Agreed. But it is the fantastical (aliens) mixed with the reality of the weak that lifts the film, and gives that escapism with a reality flavouring. Personally I could do without seeing another formulaic attempt at filmmaking.
I have to say that most of the reviews here are shallow, derivative and with nothing original to say. Do try to find the good in whatever you do: It makes for a much nicer world.
