Review of Skyline (2010) by Kurt M — 19 Dec 2012
Although the film features an excellent premise and some truly impressive special effects, "Skyline" has several flaws which prevent it from becoming anything more than an above average sci-fi thriller.
The cardboard characters never really come to life while their wealth, affluence, and shallow personalities makes it hard for the viewer to connect with them; it's "Independence Day" meets "90210." The story is little more than a series of action scenes with the main characters running from one location to the next, and instead of acting are merely reacting to the events around them. Although the premise is interesting and the aliens are both frightening and fascinating, the ending of the film is too abrupt, extremely unsatisfying, and too depressing to truly be enjoyable. The film is unable to move beyond its basic premise, and in the end is little more than a popcorn movie that is all style and very little substance.
