Exactly the same as all those abysmal, low-budget, sci-fi shocker films you've seen and wished you hadn't...but with a big budget and a few actors you may have come across before!
Little more than a mashup of "War of the Wolds", "Starship Troopers" and "Independence Day" and every bit as awful as that sounds. Aside from the bit where Scottie Thompson was mauled by what looked like an alien vagina (which was probably unintentionally hilarious) it was a snoozefest from start to finish.
