Review of Skyline (2010) by Charles J — 31 Oct 2013
Despite sloppy dialogue and just general weak writing, Skyline is one of the most impressive looking alien invasion movies I've seen in quite a long time, and considering Skyline was made on a $10,000,000 budget the effects look dazzling and so realistic, the Strause Brother's effect system "Hydraulx" is incredible.
Packing tonnes of gripping action sequences full of explosions extravaganza and terrifying alien attacks, this is a non stop adventure, although I can understand why this film is getting so much hate as it is very cheesy and lacks substance, but the style does it for me and I really enjoy watching it.
The acting is decent enough, some characters could do with a bit more enthusiasm when it comes to expressing their terror, but I liked Scottie Thompson especially, she was very strong and I would like to see more of her.
If nothing pleases you here at least the action should because there are plenty of moments that will leave you amazed. UAV Bombers dogfight in the sky against a mass of alien drones, and fighter jets explode in mid-air then roll over rooftops and tumble into aliens.
Every single frame is either packed with abductions, alien hoards or explosions. Skyline hits all the right marks with it's stylish camerawork, stunning visuals and jaw dropping slow motion shots.
