Review of Skyline (2010) by Dc E — 07 Feb 2012
"Skyline" 10 Scale Rating: 4.0 (Bad) ...
Great effects ... poor storyline and execution. To top it off, the aliens were ripped right out of several sci-fi movies that we have already seen.
Aliens show up in L.A. one night and start plucking people off the streets and sucking them into their mother ships. A group of survivors attempt to escape the skyscraper they are staying in and figure out what is going on ...
... and they never really figure out what is going on. In fact, I don't think the writer or directors knew what was going on either. We never find out why these aliens came to our planet or why they do the odd things that they do. Which makes you wonder why they made them do odd things to begin with.
The aliens were one part "Independence Day", one part "The Matrix", and one part "Transformers". There was nothing special or unique about them at all.
The same can be said for the human characters as well. Hint: You can't make a survival flick when the viewer doesn't care who lives or dies ...
Lastly, the ending was confusing and absurd. It made no sense and takes an odd turn that wasn't in line with the rest of the film. I hear they are doing a sequel ... why?
