Review of Skyfall (2012) by Stanley K — 21 Oct 2014
Beautifully made Bond movie, with a truly intriguing and chilling villain (a rarity in blockbusters nowadays) matched with an on form if troubled Bond, plus Bond girls that are a cut above in terms of actually being characters.
A manifesto for how this venerable franchise will go forward, at least as long as Daniel Craig is around - plenty of grit with wit and classic action, with none of the Bourne aping that befell Quantum of Solace and none of the cheese that has trapped the franchise since Roger Moore.
Slightly weaker than Casino Royale, though, as it allows a heavy-handed sentimental streak to enter and weigh down the film. A fine way to mark a 50th anniversary.
