Review of Skyfall (2012) by Jc E — 27 Oct 2015
Under the more than capable hands of Sam Mendes, Skyfall has been the most complex, surprising 007 film with Javier Bardem as the brilliant and most diabolical Bond villain yet. This film also had the saddest end.
It was too sad to see the inimitable Judi Dench exit with Daniel Craig showing more emotions than ever before, thus confirming that Judi was a very special M to him. Daniel Craig and Judi Dench were the perfect boss subodinate pair that made these last three 007 films such a delight to watch.
A love hate relationship between the two but more love than hate and both impossible to express to each other. Judi Dench, the proud MI6 boss went without much fuss but had expressed not in words in time that recruiting 007 was her best decision in life before expiring.
Fully understood her precious and endearing parting message, Daniel Craig would cradle her and sob in the most authentic Daniel Craig fashion. Interesting new characters were introduced. Ralph Fiennes as the new M (Malory) and the young upstart computer nerd as the new Quartermaster informing 007 that exploding pens have gone out of fashion in the 21st century.
Desmond Llewyn would be turning in his grave. Also Miss Moneypenny has a first name now. Eve. Played by a black actress. Yet another surprising element in Skyfall.
