Review of Skyfall (2012) by Ilsa W — 05 Nov 2015
THE best Bond film ever in my opinion and the best Bond too. The cast without exception is excellent, the storyline is gripping, the cheese and the gadgets have been toned down for the better. I like this new gritty Bond style. Daniel Craig and the ever-creepy Javier Bardem are exceptional with Dame Judi running a close third. The cinematography is beautiful and tho, Turkey, Shanghai and Macau prove stunning backdrops I loved having the action in London and Scotland. Cracking chase scene to start the movie and the action hardly slows down throughout. Bardem obviously has a ball in this part and the slightly homoerotic moment was interesting to say the least.
It was nice that we finally got to learn some of Bond's past, great to see the splendid Albert Finney in a small part too. I really do love Craig's take on Bond, he plays it with such a dark brooding intensity, but the cracks of emotion show through from time to time. Its a shame they killed of Dame Judi tho, I love the chemistry between her and Craig, but I like the way it ended with a new beginning, reinvigorated Bond, new M (look forward to seeing Fiennes and Craig interact), arrival of Moneypenny (like that they gave her and Bond a past) and the new Q (the charming Ben Whishaw). I look forward to the next instalment with relish!
