Review of Skyfall (2012) by Steven F — 25 Sep 2014
I know this Bond film got mixed reviews, but I loved it!
The intricate storytelling in this film deserves and gets a great director like Sam Mendes.
The photography is over the top as well as the action sequences. I believe that this has to be the most sophisticated Bond entry to date. It also shifts gears with the introduction of a new M, Moneypenny and Q. The replacements are great actors and will be a welcome addition to this great franchise.
Javier Bardem loves to play bad guys and it shows in this movie. Some Bond purists believe that he was not menacing enough. I disagree in that his character was a psychological villain who instilled fear in people without his physical presence.
At first I didn't think Daniel Craig was a good match as 007. Don't get me wrong, I have seen him in a lot of other movies and he is truly a great actor just coming into his prime. After seeing him in Casino Royal I realized he had captured the character of the book and did not try to emulate the characters we have all been used to. A true mark of a great actor sensitive to his craft.
