Review of Skyfall (2012) by The Critic ( — 11 Jan 2015
A stunning addition to the enduring James Bond franchise, 'Skyfall' benefits from Sam Mendes' taut direction and Roger Deakins' gorgeous cinematography; the silhouette fight sequence is particularly well done.
Also, the bulk of the cast play it straight with an engaging Daniel Craig comfortable with the central role, Judy Dench dominating ever scene she graces, and inclusion of Ben Whishaw and Naomi Harris to the series.
Admittedly, Javier Bardem camps it up a little too much, but there's enough backstory to give the villainous Silva more weight and the screenplay itself is a wonderful balance of action and finely-tuned dialogue.
Quite simply, one of the best Bond films ever.
