Review of Sky High (2005) by Jonny B — 04 Aug 2012

Mike Mitchell's blend of High School Musical and X-Men may be rather camp, but that doesn't mean it isn't an entertaining superhero teen flick.

Will Stronghold (Michael Angarano) is an ordinary teenager who is set to unwittingly travel to a Sky High school, a school literally in the sky for teenagers with superhuman abilities. This is due to the fact his mother and father happen to be The Commander (Kurt Russell) and Jetstream (Kelly Preston), two of the most popular superheroes in the world. However, despite believing he has no special ability, he soon appears to have super human strength when he beats up a fellow student who attacks him.

This Disney production will definitely appeal to a wider range of audiences in comparison to it's animations which are generally aimed at young children. It has a nice balance of humour and fun whilst also having some extremely cool moments which include an exciting climax.

Sky High is a big, wild and lighthearted superhero adventure which although a little camp and forgettable, is certainly worth a watch as a popcorn flick.
