Review of Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow (2004) by Matt J — 29 Dec 2008
I suppose I would like this film more if it wasn't so deeply engrossed in trying to pull off the feel of a live-action comic book. Filming a movie almost entirely in front of a green screen with a few of the biggest stars in Hollywood would be a good idea if it were properly executed.
The lame jokes, overly campy feel, awkward dialog and overall bad writing drag this flick down. It's really too bad because it had some real potential since there isn't a whole lot of competition in this type of genre.
I'm actually somewhat surprised the lead actors agreed to participate in something like this. It is an unfortunate example of good intentions gone awry. I doubt any filmmakers in the future will really hold this flick up to any sort of standards in comparison with others of it's kind.
If anything, they'll just want to be sure to make their movies turn out better than this over-hyped train wreck.
