Review of Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow (2004) by Adam N — 01 Mar 2009
Wasn't sure what to expect when I rented this movie. I hired it out on a Saturday night at 9.30pm (pretty strange time to hire out a movie, I know), nearly picked up The Grudge 2/The Eye instead (japanese horror movies) but I felt like an action movie instead.
Within the first 20minutes of watching it, I felt as though I'd made a bad decision. The soft tone picture to make it look like the early 1900's really annoyed me as well as some of the acting. However, I kept watching it and shortly after I found myself enjoying it. Not a great film, but not a bad film either.
Pros:
- Relatively good CG, though probably too much.
- A semi-decent storyline.
Cons:
- Despite a good cast there's some hammy B-grade acting.
- Soft tone picture & bad camera angles hurt my eyes.
