Review of Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow (2004) by Movie K — 04 Jan 2010
This movie looks promising from the way it is made but fell short of it. The settings is in the 1930s. Scientists all over the world has been missing. Gwyneth Paltrow is a reporter and one day she receive a tip off from a scientist who inform her bits of history on the mastermind and he might be next to go missing.
Then giant robots attack New York city. Jude Law is a pilot, better known as sky captain. He managed to destroy one of the robots. Back to base, Gwyneth and Jude strike a deal to uncover this mystery.
Next the last scientist was attack by a mysterious assassin Bai Ling but got away. The guy handed 2 vials to Gwyneth without Jude knowing. Then bird like planes attack the secret base. Giovanni Ribisi the smartie is trying to track the frequency of the secret hideout while Jude tags the main source.
Then Giovanni was captured right after he manage to lock down the location. Luckily when Jude return he saw the map and off he and Gwyneth goes to Nepal. Over there they were attack again and force to hand over the vials.
Got saved by the locals and met up the last survivor of the horrible experiment by the evil doctor. Then next they were out of fuel and land on a mobile air strip led by Angelina Jolie. Soon it was under attack as well.
They launch the counter attack underwater and found the entrance. They reach the base and saw a giant rocket like an ark. The robots attack them and Giovanni came to the rescue. With the help of the scientists they found the evil doctor and the thing is he is already dead more than 20 years ago.
The whole island is wired up to complete his legacy. The rocket is to be stop or else the blasts will destroy earth. Jude was fighting with Bai Ling near the rocket entrance and Gwyneth came back to save him.
Both went in and manage to stop the rocket full blast just in time and landed back in the safety pod. There are some humour bits in the movie, one of which has Gwyneth left only 2 shots and she hesitate to take most of the good ones.
1 shot was wasted on the ground while trying to escape and the last shot she decide to shoot Jude but he told her the lens cap... haha.
