Review of Skinwalkers (2006) by Shawn M — 17 Jun 2008
I hope this doesn't become a trend in Hollywood - trying to make Vampires and Werewolves sexy ... especially werewolves. That's what happened here in this movie, and they ceased to be sexy after they changed.
They looked more like the characters in Clive Barker's "The Night Breed" instead of the fierce "Howling" type wolves that I had hoped to be visually stimulated by. The costume & makeup crew who worked on this movie should go back to school, in my opinion.
However, the movie's plot was superb and simple ... keep a half breed boy alive until midnight on his 13th birthday, and under a Red Moon, the curse will be lifted for all werewolves, worldwide. Of course the antagonists in this movie are a pack of werewolves who love being wolves.
Addictions to feasting on blood, the hunt, and superhuman powers have made them not look at the monthly possession as a curse, but instead a gift. I won't spoil it for everyone ... but I can't give it any more than 3 stars (and that's being generous) because those werewolves were truly cheesy looking.
There are plenty of action and gun shots in ?Skinwalkers?, but it?s lacking in werewolf appeal, so I may as well have been watching "Teen Wolf".
