Review of Sixty Six (2006) by Leah L — 22 Mar 2011
A humorous and heart-warming tale. It's nineteen-sixty-six in Great Britain. 12-year-old Bernie Rubens, soon to experience his Bar Mitzvah, albeit on the day of the World Cup soccer finals in England.
Comedy and tragedy combine as the day approaches, woven through a beautiful story of family and courage, and persistence against all odds. A great cast led by Gregg Sulkin as the young Bernie Rubens, with Helena Bonham Carter as his mother, Eddie Marsan as his father, and Stephen Rhea as as doctor treating Bernie for asthma.
Script by Bridget O'Connor and Peter Staughan. Directed by Paul Weiland.
