Review of Sixteen Candles (1984) by Wesley R — 24 Aug 2009
We finally got around to paying our tribute to John Hughes last night. It was interesting comparing this movie to Tootsie, which was released 2 years earlier. Tootsie has held up much better and is the much better movie of the two.
I was unpleasantly surprised at how much really stupid slapstick there was in this movie. There were some sweet moments, some real understanding of teen aged angst and some truly funny stuff. But there was just way too much over the top stupid stuff that wasn't even funny.
