Review of Sixteen Candles (1984) by Mark L — 09 Aug 2009
I first watched the film as a preteen and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I love most of John Hughes 80's classics involving reckless teenagers and their scandalous adventures. I'd say by far that Sixteen Candles is one of the more reckless and raw teenager films.
There is a great cast with Molly Ringwald and Anthony Michael Hall, and the film delivers some pretty good laughs. It's an 80's film about teens growing up and partying, and it centers around one girl who's birthday is forgotten by her family, and she's then having a crappy day. It's sort of a love story, well it turns into a love story, but it also has other characters like a group of nerds and a crazy Asian dude.
The premise is laugh-out-loud funny and if you like John Hughes films and classic teenage comedies, you'll like this film.
There is one classic scene, which I will always remember in tribute to John Hughes. The scene where one of the nerds played by Anthony Michael Hall asks the female protagonist Molly Ringwald for her panties so he could show the rest of his nerd friends and other people that he banged her.
Awesome movies with some great lines and great scenes.
