Review of Sixteen Candles (1984) by Daniel K — 13 Dec 2010
A great John Hughes teenage dramedy, with a great turn from Anthony Michael Hall as the geek but who somehow has high self confidence. John Cusack was in this movie as a nerd as well, which I forgot, so it was cool to see how he has matured as an actor.
Ringwald plays a teen who is upset with her parents for forgetting her sixteenth birthday, one she hoped would be truly memorable. Hall is pursuing her the whole film, making for hilarious antics and dialogue.
Ringwald is after Jake Ryan, a stud who seems to have a great girl but secretly likes Ringwald as well. It ends happily and upbeat, and it is one of these feel good films that is entertaining and realistic at the same time.
