Review of Sisu (2023) by Hotelcentral — 23 Jul 2023

Somewhere I got the idea that Sisu was a serious film about one man's fight against Nazi savagery. It isn't. As one reviewer put it, this film is "stupid fun" and just another entry in the Rambo-inspired violence porn category. One man suffers unimaginable violence at the hands of the Nazis and survives it all by way of his indomitable will. This calls to mind how Bram Stoker described Dracula conquering death. So basically it's a fantasy.

And, you know? I'm still wondering what happened to the dog. Was it conveniently excluded from the final scenes or did the filmmakers forget about it? You tell me.

If you're looking for mindless action this may be your film. Otherwise, move on.
