Review of Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit (1993) by Julius L — 29 Apr 2011
I watched Sister Act 2 for the first time as a young child and I remember how much I enjoyed it and loved it. What isn't there for a child to love about? It had quirky but funny and charming nuns singing, a bunch of highschool delinquints who posses hidden talents with Whoopi Goldberg motivating them and leading the way! It was a blast getting to watch everyone grow and bond together, singing along to some good old gospel tunes with a 90s twist. It would also feature one of my all time favourite musical artists, Lauryn Hill who ended up being the breakout star of the film where she found further success with the Fugees and her solo career.
I decided to take a trip down to Memory Lane after more than a decade since I last watched the film. Watching again as a university freshman I do now realise some of the film's flaws such as the corny script, predictable plot and fairly weak character development. However I cannot help but still enjoy the film's charming nature and its pure musical fun. It may not be as strong as the original Sister Act but it's still a joy for familes to watch.
