Review of Sister Act (1992) by Jonathan O — 12 Aug 2010
I had forgotten how much fun Sister Act was until my wife and I saw again on TV the other day. Itâ??s probably Whoopi Goldbergâ??s only good movie. I donâ??t like Whoopi, I donâ??t like how her character throws out traditional Catholic hymns in favor of Christian pop, and I donâ??t like the antagonist poor manâ??s mafia theme, which is very cheesy and indicative of early 1990â??s action plots.
However, there is also something about this film that is so fun. It may be the traditional nuns interacting with Whoopi, the uplifting story of the nuns taking back their neighborhood, or just the nuns learning how to sing and capture an audience with the Pope.
It is one of those movies that will make you smile at one point or another and to me that is a successful film.
