Review of Sir Henry at Rawlinson End (1980) by Benjamin O — 01 Apr 2011
Louche take on English bucolic grotesque, but how much more than novelty value does it have? (Ooh, look, Trevor Howard in blackface doing an 'impecunious jungle bunny'.) Apparently John Peel broadcast a radio precursor.
Quite a contrast to Ivor Cutler's Life in a Scotch Sitting-Room, not least because of the foreignness of the imaginary (tropical diseases, imperial trophies, POW camp in the garden).
