Review of Sinister (2012) by Darryl M — 19 Oct 2014
Sinister is without a doubt my favorite horror film of all time. Ethan Hawk plays an accomplished crime writer who is looking to write his next book. He moves his family into a house where the last family living there was mysteriously murdered.
The topic of his next book is nonetheless covers the murders that happened at the house. While moving in - he discovers a number of films that contain snuff material with a mysterious being in the background of each one.
As Ellison (Ethan Hawk) digs deeper into who this mysterious individual is - he soon realizes his family and himself are in danger. Sinister executes on so many levels that its hard to see why it's rating isn't higher on RT.
One reason I can see is that it doesn't bring anything new to the horror genre. The storyline is something we have seen before and the scare tactics are rehashes of more well known horror films. Sinister is able to combine many of the great attributes of popular horror films and execute on them flawlessly.
Acting from an A list actor such as Ethan Hawk and as well James Ransone just puts the icing on the cake. I would put this movie at the top of any Horror movie list.
