(2012) Sinister.

HORROR.

The set up is similar to what viewers might see from a Japanese horror flick which regards 'true crime' author played by Ethan Hawke and family moves into a house where 4 people of a previous family were killed by a hanging from a tree in the back yard. Coincidently, while checking the attic, he stumbles onto a box containing film rolls regarding the hanging of this particular family, as well as other murdering acts except that their was no revelation about 1) who's the person who's filming it, and 2) who was the perpetrator performing these unsepeakable acts. The only additional clue are some random kid drawings with Mr. Boogie, the image of a ghastly figure wearing a mask (similar to the "Scream" movies) who barely could be seen on some small reels by reflections and others. A cop helps him, but even he is limited.

While I was watching this what I don't understand is how this particular ghastly figure selects the family it choses to victimizes? Which the film doesn't addess. And how come the police were never involved? What prevented these reels from being shown to the police for like the longest time? And how did it come about that all of those other families kept those acts from getting leaked to the media or to some law authority involved? For the movie never explains, leaving viewers with more questions, and just answers only the few it chooses.

2 out of 4 stars.
