Review of Sinister (2012) by James W — 16 Jan 2014
One of the scariest and most memorable horror movies to come out since Insidious. Ethan Hawke plays Ellison Oswalt, a true crime writer who moves into a comfortable home with his hot wife and two kids.
Hidden away in the attic is a box filled with shocking home movies that begin to take over him as he looks to discover the truth behind the murders. The home movies in question are absolutely terrifying, these innocent families are killed in the most graphic ways from drowning, hanging, slashing and behind lawnmowered to death, all this is accompanied by a stark and twisted soundtrack that adds to the grittiness and atmosphere.
There's not an overload of jump scares but instead it's more what you see that scares you. Images of horrific murders and one of the most frightening demonic entities to ever stalk our screens, he will send shivers down your spine the moments he first appears.
With a solid cast delivering convincing performances and a scary narrative that descends into madness and evil, Sinister is a must for horror fans, and will definitely make it hard for you to sleep the coming night.
