Review of Sinister 2 (2015) by Leo G — 25 Aug 2015
This. Is. Not. Sinister. Nor should it be treated like it. It is a sequel, yes. A sequel that is relatively independent of the first one. I ADORE Sinister. Sinister was so unique and special, thrilling and suspenseful. But of course the sequel can't live up to that based on the fact that there is no mystery left. Sinister 2, I think, has impossible standards to live up to, and since it didn't, it got unfairly/brutally criticised. Yes, it's not without flaws. Jump scares aren't that scary. Kill films are slightly too elaborate (still some unnerving ones however). Acting sucks at times. Soundtrack could be better, though it was good throughout. Kids could be a bit annoying. Overall, it was watchable and good.
I think it's a fun watch. It's nothing like the first in tone or mood or storyline, but it has no reason to be. It should be different. The lighter, goofier scenes are fun. The romantic subplot is sweet. The abuse subplot is really sad. Not a lot of horror films go to the trouble of adding all this real-life drama. It has a lot of heart. It shouldn't be kicked aside as some pile of crap. It was a solid sequel. Still have questions that need answering. Hoping for a third (that maybe involves the Norwegian Hell Call or something........more about Bughuul.). And have already seen this twice.
