Review of Sinister 2 (2015) by Will K — 15 Sep 2015
The first "Sinister" would probably rank as one of the best Horror films of the past decade and when I saw the terrible reviews coming in I went in with low expectations. With how much money the first made, there was no doubt a sequel was coming.
"Sinister 2" is almost a copy and paste of the first film focusing on cheap jump scares and losing some of what made the first great but I didn't hate it. Although it could've been a lot better than it is, the twist at the end was a little unexpected and the violence is amped up.
The snuff films, like from the original, are shot on super 8 film are just as eerie and much more disturbing than the first. One of the "films" would come close to as over the top as the lawnmower scene from the first.
Don't go in with high expectations and you'll enjoy what you get. And also unlike the original "Sinister" which shot for a PG-13 rating, this is a pretty hard R and shows a lot more on screen that some viewers with light stomachs will be grossed out by.
