Review of Single White Female (1992) by Earl H — 08 Aug 2009
One might wonder why review this particular movie right now but I was looking through my collection of classics and stumbled upon this delightful '92 DVD.
Single White Female is a timeless story of jealousy- A new roommate borrows more than just a few things without asking... her roommate's clothes, her boyfriend and yes, her life! Crazy bitch syndrome if you ask me. Haha- but seriously, as low budget as this was, SWF carries us forward with appealing characters and moments that we can all relate to.
Jennifer Jason Leigh is particularly appealing- her somewhat hushed on-screen presence combined with the power to be prominent is a true gift. As a matter of fact, the entire cast delivers. It's no surprise they've since all had and continue to have busy careers. Bridget Fonda, Steven Weber and the unsavory character played by Stephen Tobolowsky alike.
On a technical and funny note, the squeaky sounds of a doorway dolly can be heard in the opening scene! Some of the more memorable moments include Hedy's new haircut reveal to when she sneaks into the roommate's boyfriend's home and perform oral sex to wake him up! OMG!
In the end, I find it easy to watch this film over and over- always discovering something new. A timeless character piece that is sure to leave a mark... or a SCREWDRIVER in you! Ha ha!
