Review of Singin' in the Rain (1952) by Itamar K — 09 Jul 2011
No musical from the 50's has aged quite as well as Singin' in the Rain. The reason, it's important to remember, is that it was conceived as a period piece to begin with, so the aged feel just helps it.
It has more going for it than nostalgia though - some of the most memorable musical numbers in history, great choreography, dead-on comedic timing from all the cast, and of course the incredible charisma of Gene Kelly - whose spotlight is often stolen by the brilliant and underrated Donal O'Connor.
A well deserved classic.
