Review of Singin' in the Rain (1952) by Sean C — 02 Aug 2011
This is a very cute, very loveable movie with some good songs and some amazing set pieces, but #5, AFI?? Number FIVE??? Are you freaking JOKING?? Obviously I can appreciate the quality of the gags and the astounding dance/vocal work of the three leads, but I just don't understand how this movie can be rated number 5 on the list of all-time greatest American films.
Top 20? I would still disagree but at least then I would understand (there's no denying this film's legacy and who doesn't whistle that little jingle when walking in the rain?). Oh well. I guess context is everything and my generation tends to be pretty jaded when it comes to this era.
