Review of Singin' in the Rain (1952) by The-Lords A — 15 Jul 2012
Easily one of the best musicals if not the best musical that I have ever seen. What makes this movie work is that it manages to combine three genres seamlessly into the picture namely period piece, comedy, music and most importantly how Singin In The Rain pokes fun at the important time period in film history when silents had to transition to talkies.
Everyone in this movie is great. Gene Kelly stars and co directs the film with great charm, charisma and extraordinary dancing. His best scene is his famous scene where he sings the title song and dances while its raining outside. Debbie Reynolds is beautiful and a great actress. Not to mention she has great chemistry with Gene Kelly onscreen and she did a great job keeping up with Gene Kelly and Donald O 'Connor's dancing at the time this film was released. O'Connor is great as comic relief and most importantly Jean Hagen stars as the beautiful but vain movie star with a voice that grates on the ears.
The choreography for the music and dance numbers were just fantastic and the music is so memorable that people sing the title song or a few other numbers afterwards.
For a movie thats 60 years old, it still holds up as a timeless classic and must be seen by any fan of cinema even if they arn't fans of musicals. 5 out of 5 stars. What A Glorious Feeling.
