Review of Singin' in the Rain (1952) by Beth C — 27 Dec 2012
An all-singing, all-dancing cast who deliver a brilliant performance for all the family. Singin' In The Rain is one of the few (very few) films that I have given 5 stars to throughout the whole of my film-viewing history.
Gene Kelly's sublime presence and dancing ability leaves you watching in complete awe of him, thinking 'Why can't I be THAT good at dancing, singing and acting, as well as THAT good looking?'.
As always, Donald O'Connor provides the laughs and the funny faces and I love that he pops up every now and then to provide the audience with some classic lighthearted charm. Debbie Reynolds upholds the femininity and grace of this cheery film, whilst also serving as the honest love interest of Gene.
And as for Jean Hagen, well all I can say is 'And I CAN'T STAND 'EM' :).
This has to be, without question, my favourite musical of all time, if not my favourite film.
