Review of Sing Street (2016) by Jin T — 12 Apr 2016
I still clearly had no idea what's up with this movie even after watching the trailer. All I knew was 80's music, kids, and a hot chick. Since I love the 90's era, I expected this movie to be a real treat.
Spotted a few artists I recognized: Duran Duran, Depeche Mode, Spandau Ballet, and even the famous Axel F. The story starts out with a teenager boy who is notified that he will be switching school and when he does, his life turns around and for the most part, the music.
I love movies like this when music changes and influences a lot of people but there is always two people or so that takes it beyond the level of ambition. See, we love music. Who doesn't? I love music as much as the next person and 80's music is of no unfamiliar territory.
If you loved Nowhere Boy, what stops you from watching this wonderful film? It's even inspirational. Makes me want to play piano and practice more. Yes, I haven't touch it for awhile but even the main character's brother says that he should bring the legacy and move on.
There are some heartfelt scenes and also weird yet funny scenes that will definitely make you laugh out loud. Just a group of people who band together and became friends through music. Even the character you don't like, suddenly becomes part of it as well.
At first, I thought the song I hear from their first play is ridiculous but when Conor starts singing, it's magic in the air. I know, it sounds cheesy but seriously it was frickin' good. If you love music, even you love the 80's but most of all a good dramatic story with a spice of funny stuff that actually makes you laugh for once then this movie is for you.
And yes, I would love to own this movie!
