Review of Sing Street (2016) by Dragonsfoe . — 17 Aug 2016
Drive it like you stole it.
Sing Street is nothing short of fantastic. With a killer soundtrack, a fantastic cast and an undeniably charming influence Sing Street solidifies itself as one of the best and most unique films of the year.
John Carney knows how to make musicals. His films should be presented to a wider audience. Sing Street is no exception. It is in fact his best film to date. This film struck a chord with me for many reasons. I am a musician. I have helped form a band, and I have tried to get a girl with a song that I have made myself. Even thought the 80s setting is not one that I identify as much with this film is fun, charming, catchy, and all around fantastic. Therre it's not a moment where I have not experienced something this character has been through.
As many of Carney's films, it can be cliche. And you can see where it is going at times, but the film makes it up with all of its charm and a great cast. It is hard to find such a talented child cast without annoying anyone in the audience, but carney has done it.
Overall Sung Street is no doubt one of the best films of the year, it will probably go down as one of the best musicals ever made.
Rating: 8.3 (A-).
