Review of Sing Street (2016) by Brains A — 24 Aug 2016
Potential viewers should be aware that this film comes in two parts. The first is gritty, sweet and hilarious, subtly probing issues such as family separation, abuse, alcoholism and perception of class.
Thus music in the first half is fantastic and you truly root for the characters. The second half is a string of tired cliches, awful songs, predictable dialogue, and the bizarre and total abandonment of the domestic issues raised.
The final scene was one of the oddest sections I've ever seen: poorly filmed, totally unnecessary, unrealistic and why oh why did we have to finish the film with a Partridge-esque rainy sex face? A real shame, as the beginning was so promising.
Definitely not a 97% rating! 67%.
