Review of Sing Street (2016) by Joshua M — 16 Nov 2016
While those involved with the movie can be credited for creating (or plugging in in some cases) some terrific music for the flick, sadly that's the only thing it has going for the film. Most of the movie is too fanciful to really get you under the skin of the characters, and many of the plot tropes and contrivances make it feel too much like music-based flicks I've seen before.
Instead of showing more of the warts-and-all parts of these characters' lives, they brush it away for the music. Once more, the music is entertaining (seriously, buy the soundtrack and save some time from seeing the film), but everything else is pretty shallow; I can only count it as half-a-movie.
