Review of Sing Street (2016) by Liam A — 13 Jan 2017
John Carney created a new kind of musical with the film Once and although generally not being a fan of the genre, I did find Once to be a perfect film about 2 lost souls connecting. Therefore I took a keen interest when Sing Street was announced.
Although here the songs don't form part of the narrative as such, they are a big part of the movie as a school boy in Dublin during the 1980's forms a band with the rest of the school rejects in order to attract the attention of a girl.
However, the film isn't a love story as such , it's more about not conforming and following your own path. I thought it was a great, fun movie with an absolute superb soundtrack featuring a mix of 80's music and songs from the film.
