Review of Sing Street (2016) by Olly S — 21 Feb 2017
WOW. Within the first minute of this incredible movie I was enraptured, and it didn't once lose me until the credits. One day after watching it and I'm still crying. It had me laughing and crying continuosly throughout, the acting is superb, very sharp writing, great pacing, wonderful story and it ignited my heart and made so many memories, joyous and painful, rush back. I love this kind of Irish wit and creative style. Each February I scour through all the Oscar nominated movies and try to watch them all, and I'm sad to see that Sing Street isn't up there with them as it's genuinely better, more enjoyable and well put together than a lot of Oscar films. Watching this movie, especiially seeing the love story unfold between Conor and Raphina, made my heart feel like falling in love, I could really feel that, and that speaks wonders of the storytelling skill of this movie. The casting was perfect, and each character's role in the story and how they were performed was great. Aiden Gillen (Littlefinger) was a great pick as Conor's father. I shall be watching out keenly for future work from Ferdia Walsh-Peelo (Conor) and Lucy Boynton (Raphina). I see that Ferdia will be in the new upcoming season of Vikings as Alfred The Great. Fantastic, as I'm already a big fan of Vikings and after seeing Sing Street, I'll be even more looking forward to seeing the new season with Ferdia's performing skill. I'm amazed that Sing Street is his first movie, and then landing the very prestigious role of Alfred in Vikings! Possibly a new Heath Ledger esque actor on the rise?
Would love to see him cast in Game of Thrones and star alongside Aiden Gillen if possible! And as for Lucy Boynton, great performance indeed, and I remember seeing her in Miss Potter. Similarly to Ferdia, I look forward to seeing Lucy in future movies, perhaps in Game of Thrones as well as Ferdia?? Anyway... Sing Street, highly recommended. Still crying...
