Review of Sing Street (2016) by Slant_Not — 25 Apr 2016
Once again, the nose-in-the-air folks over at Slant miss all subtlety - not to mention being oblivious to the tenderness - of this gem of a movie. The critic accuses the director of (gasp!) "coasting on sincerity and high spirits".
What a horrible thing to feature in a movie: sincerity and high spirits. Instead: sweetness, fun, fantasy and escapism begone! Show not your face at Slant's local movie house. Seriously, though, this is a delightful, witty, fun little movie that really does capture the times and, moreover, leaves you with a bit more hope for the human race.
Not a bad way, I venture, to spend an evening with your loved one(s).
