Review of Sing Street (2016) by Bradley J — 02 Aug 2016
Joyous and quirky and absolutely nostalgic, Sing Street is old-fashioned filmmaking done with feel-good flare. At its core, it is a pleasant coming-of-age film of a teen who finds himself through music and an eccentric but beautiful girl that tells him to live life happy-sad.
It's a strong message done quietly and this slight but lovable film is such breezy fun, it's hard to hate. If there is a problem, it is in the lack of resolution the lead as with key characters as he journeys on in the end and in the rather questionable way the sister character is treated in the sibling dynamic.
These are small nitpicks in a film so fun and with such a killer soundtrack, one can just smile and enjoy. Expect several of the songs to get Oscar attention. I've been singing "Drive It Like You Stole It" for three straight days since seeing it.
Rating: 80.
